For mental health awareness month, we want to encourage the campus
community to take time to think about wellness. While minimizing the impact of
stress through coping is one approach we advocate, in this series we want to
highlight the importance of emphasizing and intentionally engaging in
experiences that improve our lives.
So what do memes have to do with that? Humor, which we exercise
when we look at memes, is linked to wellness in ways that may benefit all of us
right now.
Everyone has unique approaches to humor and laughter in their
lives, so seeking out opportunities to find and create humor will almost
certainly have a slightly different meaning for everyone. However, research
suggests that humor may benefit your physical health, relationships, learning,
and sense of mental wellness. The UAF Student Health & Counseling Center
will be putting out a 4-part series of blogs about humor and wellness in which
we’ll share information about how humor relates to each of these areas. We’ll
also share information about why humor may have special benefits during high
stress times and ideas for ways to connect with that funny bone.
